This is a tough 21 day trek at high altitude in Ladakh and is only for the very fit and experienced trekker. Ladakh - or "Little Tibet" - is the most sparsely populated and remote area of India. A high altitude snow desert nestling in the northern Himalayas it is now renowned for trekking and adventure sports. Our tour starts with time to acclimatise to the altitude and to explore Leh, the capital and once a staging post on the old Silk Route. It is a bustling town surrounded by spectacular landscapes and atmospheric Buddhist monasteries.
The trek itself starts from the awe-inspiring monastery at Lamayuru and finishes at Darcha village on the Manali Leh highway where there are several tea houses for weary travellers. You will be led along the Western Himalayas' premier long distance path, climb beautiful snow covered passes with panoramic views of the mountain ranges, cross rushing rivers - the Chandra, Bhaga, Tsarap. Doda, Zanskar and Indus - and see Buddhist gompas and weatherbeaten shepherds with their flocks on the old pack horse trail. To complete this trek is an amazing achievement and a once in a lifetime experience. |
