Get the flavour of the North East of India with the chance to enjoy the culture and handicrafts of the region and see some of the fantastic wildlife that the National Parks and Tiger Reserves support. There is time for some sightseeing in India's capital, Delhi, before flying to Guwahati, the capital of Assam.
Situated between the picturesque foothills of the eastern Himalayas, Guwahati is the gateway to the seven other north-eastern states and a tourist attraction in itself. With famous temples such as the Kamakhya temple, thought to be the most sacred among the tantrik shrines of Shakti worship in the world, and situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river where you can enjoy an evening cruse, it is a magical place to visit.
Assam is famous for its silk and Muga, the golden silk, and Eri are produced by silkworms that are native only to Assam. There is a trip to Sualkuchi, a town famous for its long heritage of silk weaving, to visit the weavers and admire their craftsmanship. Then it's on to Kaziranga National Park for game drives to see tigers, herds of wild elephants, one-horned rhinos, raptors of all varieties and other rare and endangered animals and birds such as the white winged wood duck. A good way to see the Park is by elephant back and an elephant safari is included in your trip as well as a visit to a traditional tea garden. So much to see and do in a short trip!
